Vasilis Chandakas
Vassilis Chandakas is a PHD Civil Engineer.
He has served at the Ministry of Culture for more than 30 years as:
- Director of the Museum Construction Directorate with several important projects, such as construction of new Museums, interventions in Monuments for their conversion into modern Museums, maintenance and upgrading of the existing Museums,
- General Director of Monument Restoration and Museum Constructions responsible for the coordination and supervision of the Central and Regional Technical Services of the Ministry, as well as a series of studies and projects,
- Member of the Central Archaeological Council (KAS), the Central Council of Modern Monuments (KSNM) as well as the Central Council of Museums,
- Member of the Board of Directors and Acting Director of the Organization for the Construction of the New Acropolis Museum (OANMA).
He worked at the Ministry of Justice as CEO of “THEMIS CONSTRUCTION SA” responsible for the design, construction, extension, repair, maintenance, equipment and organization of courthouses, penitentiaries, etc.
He participated as Member to the Central Delegation of the Technical Chamber of Greece, as Vice President to the Attica Disciplinary Committee and as Curator of the Committee on Culture and Cultural Heritage Issues.
He attended as Chairman in different Scientific Committees for instance for the Restoration of the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, and of the Roman Villa of Herodes Atticus and the Archeological Site of Athena Alea in Arcadia.
